Attention: Parents of Adolescent Daughters Between the Ages of 11 & 16 Years Old

If so, you may be eligible to participate in a research study designed to help parents prevent anorexia nervosa – and help your daugher get back on the right track to regaining healthy behaviors. The study is an online, 6-week program and you are not required to come to Stanford at any time during the study.

Parents Act Now - Anorexia Prevention

The Program: PAN is an online program for parents who are concerned about their daughter’s relationship with food and her body. Each week, participating parents will log onto the program, which will teach you about warning signs of anorexia, the thoughts and cognitions that occur during Anorexia, how to intervene, and how to support healthy eating and exercise behaviors. The program includes video clips, advice from expert Psychiatrists, an online discussion group, quizzes with automatic feedback, and journaling opportunities, as well as educational information.

The Researchers: This is a pilot-study run by the Stanford Psychiatry Department. Expert psychiatrists as well as psychology students have designed this study and will support you as you go through the program.

The Commitment: The time commitment for this program is about an hour for each of the six weeks. You will log onto the program at your convenience, at home. Before and after the program you will talk with a doctoral psychology student for about an hour to answer some questions, make sure you are a good fit for the program, and to evaluate how much it helped you and your daughter. You may choose to leave the study at any time.
